My entire adult life I have worked late nite and graveyard shifts - I have always been an extreme night owl.
For the past 27 years since I took my first graveyard shift job, I have continuously experimented with improving my quality of sleep and it has been the subject of many discussions with co-workers dealing with the same non-traditional shift sleep issues. What I always found odd is how shocked they were to all the systems I had put into place to ensure my best sleep, and in return I was shocked that they hadn't put more effort into trying to improve their sleep situation!
Not that sleep issues are unique to shift workers either. If you glance over sleep related headlines, the percentages cited are huge - most report at least HALF of the adult population having detrimental issues due to poor sleep.
